Dr. Esen Özkaya is a Professor of Dermatology at the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, İstanbul University, Türkiye. She has been a university lecturer and clinical researcher there since 1998 and is the founder and head of the Dermatoallergy Unit (est. 1996).
Dr. Özkaya completed her dermatology residency at İstanbul University (1990–1994) and was a scholarship resident at the University of Münster, Germany (1992–1993). She became a Dermatology Specialist in 1994, an Associate Professor in 1998, and a professor in 2004.
She has published approximately 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on allergic contact dermatitis, fixed drug eruption and other adverse cutaneous drug reactions, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria. In 2003, she received the İstanbul University Science Award for her research on fixed drug eruption. Dr. Özkaya has mentored 14 dermatology theses and tutored national postgraduate courses on patch testing and prick testing (2007, 2009). She is the author of a Turkish textbook on skin tests for allergic skin diseases and co-author of an English book on adverse cutaneous drug reactions to cardiovascular drugs.
Dr. Özkaya is a member of the Turkish Society of Dermatology, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), and the European Society of Contact Dermatitis (ESCD). She serves on the Contact Dermatitis Editorial Advisory Board as Section Editor for Occupational Dermatology and is active in ESCD Working Parties and the EADV Contact Dermatitis Task Force.
