Akiko Yagami, MD, PhD

Professor Akiko Yagami is Professor of the Department of General Allergy at Fujita Health University Bantane Hospital, Professor of the Collaborative Department of Advanced Allergy and Immunology at Fujita Health University School of Medicine, and Director of the Fujita Health University Allergy Center in Japan.

After graduating from Fujita Health University School of Medicine, she has devoted her career to clinical practice, education, and research of allergic diseases. She was appointed Professor of General Allergy in 2017, became Director of the Fujita Health University Allergy Center in 2021, and was additionally appointed Professor of the Collaborative Department of Advanced Allergy and Immunology in 2024.

Professor Yagami serves as Vice President of the Japanese Society of Cutaneous Immunology and Allergy, President of the Japanese Latex Allergy Society, Board Member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists of Japan, and Chair of the Japanese Contact Dermatitis Research Group (JCDRG). She is also actively involved in national healthcare policy and patient safety initiatives through her service on several governmental and professional committees, including the Allergy Disease Control Promotion Council, the Pharmaceutical Affairs and Food Sanitation Council, and the Consumer Safety Investigation Commission. She has played a leading role in the development of numerous Japanese clinical guidelines and guidance documents, including those for contact dermatitis, urticaria, hand eczema, latex allergy, metal allergy, skin testing, and food allergy.

Her research and clinical focus cover a wide range of allergic diseases, including atopic dermatitis, food allergies, occupational dermatoses, contact dermatitis, latex allergy, and urticaria. Through clinical research and multidisciplinary collaboration, she is working to improve the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and management of allergic diseases.
