Professor Margarida Gonçalo

Margarida Gonçalo is Senior Graduate Assistant of Dermatology working at Dermatology Department of the University Hospital of Coimbra (since 2009), and invited Professor of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (since 2015).
In 2014, she defended her PhD Thesis at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra on “Cutaneous adverse drug reactions. Contributions to understanding pathomechanisms involved in delayed immune reactions” and in 1997 completed her MD Thesis in Immunology, with the work on “Pathophysiology of Allergic Contact Dermatitis.”
She is responsible for the Unit of Cutaneous Allergy of the University Hospital of Coimbra (Contact Dermatitis and Occupational dermatology and Atopic Dermatitis) and for the UCARE/ACARE (GA2LEN Urticaria/Angioedema Center of Reference and Excellence), and has performed studies on skin testing in drug eruptions, photosensitivity, fragrance allergy, on the Baseline series, and also on chronic urticaria. She has published more than 300 manuscripts and more than 30 book chapters on these subjects (h-index: 37, web of science, with >7500 citations).
She has been President of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis (ESCD) (2012-14), is Chair of the European Environmental Contact Dermatitis Research Group (EECDRG), and since 2015 has been member of the Scientific Programming Committee and Board of Directors of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV). She has been a member of the Board of the Dermatology section of the EAACI and since 2019, a member of the European Dermatology Forum.
Finally, Professor Gonçalo is Section Editor of Clinical Studies for the journal Contact Dermatitis, a Section Editor for the Journal of the EADV and Editor-in-Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Dermatology.
